Tots in Tents NC - Weekend Campout at Medoc Mountain State Park - Nov. 2023

“Tots in Tents” is a camping and nature group specifically designed for families with babies, toddlers, and preschoolers.  Hosted by Kelly at Parenting Off The Beaten Path, the ultimate goal of Tots in Tents is to help the littlest kids fall in love with camping.  Which means - supporting parents and caregivers!  We support families during our group campouts by 1) taking care of a majority of the planning and logistics and 2) by providing a diverse community of families to engage with before, during, and after the campout.

How we help parents during group campouts

Keeping costs low:

We try to keep registration costs as low as possible and are open to working with parents for whom the registration fee might be a burden. By camping as a group and using our group purchasing power for breakfast/supplies we can offer our group trips at a smaller price point than what you may be able to achieve camping solo! Our group trips cost $45-65 per family (sliding scale). Booking a single regular campsite for two nights in a NC State Park costs $46-$52 - so by coming with the group families are already spending less!

Reducing mental burden:

We take care of the logistics involved in renting the campsite, planning hikes/activities, and more. We also provide each camping family a comprehensive packing list, meal and snack ideas, gear guidance, and more to help reduce the mental burden of planning.

Reducing what you have to pack:

Breakfast for both Saturday and Sunday mornings is provided - so that’s two whole meals families don’t have to worry about packing! We also provide all of the bottled drinking water for the weekend (a huge space saver in the trunk!). We bring marshmallows and hot chocolate for evening and morning treats. Entertainment for the kids is taken care of via our mobile mud kitchen, plastic animals and trucks, bubbles, glow sticks, and books - all meant to get dirty and and roughed up!

Building community:

For families who are anxious about safety of solo camping, hesitant to “do it alone”, nervous about being able to go to the bathroom while keeping the kids safe, or are just craving adult conversation - we have your covered! The built in community of the group campout will help everyone feel at ease, confident, and supported.
